Dave Pilipovich

College Basketball Coach

Coach Pilipovich starts the show asking who in Las Vegas has the best sub sandwich? After a brief conversation about the food in Vegas we start down his path. Where did his love of hoops begin and what were his obstacles in playing the game?

Who were a few of his early coaching mentors, after sending out several applications for a job how he handled some rejection and then getting a graduate assistant position at U of California- PA to start his coaching carousel.

Hear what he took from his first jobs at U-California PA, Florida Atlantic that was just joining the D1 level, and Georgia State. Why Robert Morris was a job he felt comfortable with and the hurdles he faced at Eastern Michigan. Going from EMU to U of Michigan under Coach Tommy Amaker and what the big difference was he noticed right away.

Coach Pilipovich talks about the challenges of recruiting at Air Force Academy that makes it so different than any other school, the story, and thoughts of when his head coach was released mid-year and he was named interim head coach. Unlike most college graduates the Air Force Cadets go to serve. Hear how their assignments affect how they play once they are handled out. We finish with some advice for assistant coaches that aspire to be a head coach and what is next for Coach Pilipovich.
